Our Collaborative Film Review Experience on Google Docs: The Truman Show

For our collaborative writing project, my friend and I reviewed The Truman Show by using Google Docs as an online collaborative writing tool. My group member was Sema Yılmaz. In this task, we were expected to write a film review of around 400 words for a university audience. We also exchanged our reviews with another group and received peer feedback through the comment feature on Google Docs.

During the writing process, we divided the work equally. We discussed our ideas together and tried to make the review balanced. Since we worked on the same document at the same time, it was easy to see each other’s changes instantly. This made communication faster and helped us save time. However, sometimes editing the same paragraph simultaneously became a little confusing because different ideas were added at once.

Using Google Docs was very useful for collaborative writing. The comment and suggestion features made peer feedback easier and more organized. Instead of sending separate files to each other, we were able to work on one shared document together. In addition, seeing our classmates’ comments helped us improve our review by making it more detailed and reader-friendly. I think Google Docs is an effective tool for group projects because it supports teamwork, communication, and easy editing. Overall, this project helped me understand the importance of collaboration in academic writing while also improving my digital writing skills.
